The Mendham UMC hosted an Iftar dinner on March 19th to celebrate the end of Ramadan with neighbors who are members of Peace Island, an organization headquartered in Wayne. The Muslims explained the background and rituals of the holy month of Ramadan, and Pastor Dongkue Jee shared the meaning and traditions of the Christian season of Lent. The families joined in wonderful conversation over dinner prepared by the Peace Island women, building friendships as neighbors. The evening ended with the giving of peace lilies to the women who cooked the meal, followed by everyone forming a circle and singing Mark Miller’s “Draw the Circle Wide” which sent everyone home with warmth in their hearts.
